Policy Statements

National Forum Public Comment to FDA on Salt - On March 27, 2008, the National Forum filed a Public Comment with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on the issue of salt and sodium in food.

Regional and Global Policy Framework Statement - The mission of the Regional and Global Collaboration Implementation Group (RGCIG) of the National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention is to engage regional and global partners to mobilize resources in heart disease and stroke prevention and treatment. As a means of carrying out this mission and in working to fulfill Recommendation Number 17 of A Public Health Action Plan to Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke, the RGCIG developed a Policy Framework Statement and it was adopted by the National Forum Coordinating Board on January 23, 2008. The Statement provides recommendations to the National Forum and its members to guide US policies that promote cardiovascular health on a regional and global basis.

Policy Statement on Importance of Prevention as Element of Health Care Reform Efforts - PolicyMakers should include a strong and vigorous focus on prevention as a starting point for comprehensive health care reform if we hope to improve the health status and quality of life for all Americans.

Policy Statement on Establishing National Surveillance System - The National Forum encourages the establishment of a national surveillance unit to support the prevention and  and management of heart disease and stroke,

Policy Statement on Biomarkers for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention - In October 2008, support for the Lipid Standardization Program was terminated. This loss will affect the availability of reference standards and their timely delivery to laboratories. In addition, some tools needed to standardize laboratory tests properly either will not be readily available or not available at all, thus compromising the accuracy and overall reliability of the tests. Continuation of the Lipid Standardization Program is critical to the success of the Nation Forum’s efforts to develop a comprehensive national program to reduce the burden of heart disease and stroke.
