Overview
Mission: To assist federal, state and local public health agencies, including laboratories, to address heart disease and stroke as a priority within a strong chronic disease prevention effort, and develop the needed competencies and resources by facilitating:
- Establishment of definable entities with responsibility and accountability for heart disease and stroke prevention
- Creation of a training system to develop and maintain appropriately trained public health workforces
- Identification and dissemination of model performance standards and core competencies in heart disease and stroke prevention and cardiovascular health promotion
- Provision of ongoing access to technical assistance and consultation for agencies and partners in heart disease and stroke prevention
- Integration and collaboration with all relevant programs and partners

Current Activities
1) Actively participate in the planning of the annual meeting of the National Forum, including
identifying an opportunity to sponsor an invited session related to assessment
and enhancement of organizational capacity and/or competencies for heart
disease and stroke prevention.
2) Continue to utilize the National Forum website to post resource materials and
training opportunities related to organizational capacity and competencies for
heart disease and stroke prevention.
3) Continue to participate with other National Forum IGs, NACDD’s CVH Council,
CDC/DHDSP and other partners to define and advocate for HDSP capacity for state-
based HDSP programs and other organizations.
4) Continue to coordinate efforts with the Regional and Global Collaboration
Implementation Group (RGCIG) to assess and address heart disease and stroke
training needs on an international basis.
5) Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation Implementation Group (MEIG) Evaluation
Project Team to help disseminate and interpret the information and recommendations
included in their journal article communicating the recommendations from the 2007
“Watershed Conference” on evaluation of policy and environmental change for heart
disease and stroke prevention.
