About the National Forum

Vision: Working together for a heart-healthy and stroke-free world.

Mission: To provide leadership and encourage collaboration among organizations committed to heart disease and stroke prevention.

The National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention is made up of more than 80 individual organizations that collaborate to provide national leadership for those committed to building a heart healthy and stroke free society.

In 2001, the American HeartAssociation, the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention founded the National Forum to provide leadership for implementation of A Public Health Action Plan to Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke, a national plan to chart a course for the prevention of heart disease and stroke.  READ A SHORT HISTORY OF THE NATIONAL FORUM.The Coordinating Board and Executive Committee provide strategic leadership and direction for the National Forum. Bylaws specify operating procedures for the National Forum.

The National Forum consists of seven implementation groups that carry out the work of the Forum: Action Priorities, Communications, Monitoring & Evaluation, Organizational Capacity, Policy Research, Public Health Leadership, and Regional & Global Partnerships – as well as two committees – Membership and Resources.

See the calendar for upcoming meetings.

A team of six staff positions works in conjunction with National Forum members to achieve the Forum’s goals and objectives.
